Just a 4-hour drive from Addis Ababa lies Awash National Park, Ethiopia’s oldest wildlife sanctuary. Spread across acacia savannah and volcanic plains, the park is home to over 450 bird species, Beisa oryx, Soemmerring's gazelle, and the dramatic Awash River Gorge.
Drive east from Addis Ababa down the expressway into the Rift Valley. Arrive in Awash National Park and check in. Afternoon game drive across the Ilala Sala plain to spot Beisa Oryx, gazelles, and ostriches.
Morning visit to the spectacular Awash River Falls where the river plunges into a deep gorge. Afternoon walk near Fantale volcano and evening visit to the active hyena caves where wild spotted hyenas emerge at twilight.
Travel to Doho Lodge nestled amidst natural hot water pools fed by geothermal springs. Bathe in the mineral-rich waters surrounded by doum palms, and observe water birds at nearby Lake Beseka.
Final morning sunrise game drive along the acacia savannah before driving back to Addis Ababa, arriving in the afternoon.
